Egg

Butterflies begin life as tiny eggs, usually laid on the underside of leaves.

Caterpillar (Larva)

The egg hatches into a caterpillar that spends most of its time eating and growing.

Chrysalis (Pupa)

The caterpillar forms a chrysalis where it undergoes metamorphosis.

Adult Butterfly

The butterfly emerges with wings and begins the cycle again.
